New MRI at Advanced Imaging is first of its kind in the Northwest
Advanced Imaging of Montana in Missoula announces that it is now accepting appointments for its new 3T MRI, also known as Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The GE SIGNA Hero 3.0T MRI at Advanced Imaging is the first of its kind to be in use in the Northwest and one of the first in the country. Incorporating GE’s AI (article intelligence) technology, the new 3T MRI provides higher resolution diagnostic images for more accurate diagnoses as well as 50% shorter scan times than traditional MRIs.
Traditional MRI machines operate at a strength of 1.5T, or teslas. A tesla is the unit of measurement quantifying the strength of a magnetic field. A 3T MRI generates a magnetic field that is twice as strong as a 1.5T MRI and 10 to 15 times stronger than an open MRI scanner. The increased magnification results in better image quality and much higher detail.
The new 3T MRI at Advanced Imaging is a 70 cm wide-bore system, allowing patients more room in the scanner. With the additional space and shorter exam times, Advanced Imaging anticipates fewer patients will experience claustrophobia and need sedation.
3T MRIs are especially suited for scans of conditions involving the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal and vascular systems. They can also scan for conditions like prostate cancer and other types of cancer. With the ability to scan slices as small as 1mm, 3T MRIs can help physicians with the diagnosis of complex conditions.
